Kut Hing Pewter Swatow early 20th century. Decorative Chinese Tea Flask, with chinese characters and decorations. Some dents to hexagonal cannister. The Kut Hing company (from the city of Swatow – now called Shantou) was arguably the most prominent Swatow pewterware maker of the late 19th/early 20th century. This piece is hand engraved to each of its six sides and has the makers mark to the base. “Swatow” literally translates to “mountain head;” and the majority of the pewter products made in this region were renown for their intricate decoration.
